About this deal

Meanwhile, Kelly is also investigating two seemingly straightforward crimes: a case involving an illegal immigrant, and a robbery following the death of local businessman Colin Day. But evidence comes to light that reveals a web of criminal activity beyond anything Kelly imagined. Behind the veneer of sleepy, touristy towns lies a dark and dangerous underworld. As Kelly threatens to expose those with much to lose, she risks paying the ultimate price to get to the truth... This really is fabulous international thriller full of tension and twists and it races along to an explosive conclusion I loved the book it was different and very compulsive and I found myself completely immersed in the story.

Two cases become four and the pressure is on Kelly Porter to produce results. Not only are her higher-ups pressuring her, the press is having a field day, and the lucrative tourist trade in the beautiful Lake District is suffering as a result of the murders. Rachel Lynch is a very talented crime writer who **knows just how to keep her audience glued to every word !’ Reader review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Twisted spellbindingly brilliant read you will be missing out on such a good book if you don’t read this one. A standalone crime thriller by the author of the DI Kelly Porter series Rachel Lynch. I really enjoy the DI Kelly Porter series and can’t wait for the next instalment but was interested to read this standalone thriller. I can see this book being part of a series and would be happy to read the next episode in Helen Scott’s career. The characters are so real that at times I found myself catching my breath at the sheer energy and determination of DI Kelly Porter ’ All Things Bookie Honestly, it felt like the novel was mostly told from the perspective of the bad guys. There was an uneven plot development and limited accessibility to the main character, who should have been the most captivating touchstone for the reader. Kelly’s mother and sister still live in the Lake District and Kelly has thought that her sister, Nikki, was the preferred “perfect” daughter. She stayed close to her parents and settled down while Kelly ran away to London when her father, an ex-policeman, passed away. The relationship between the sisters is fantastically written and I’m sure will strike a chord with many readers.

I'm not going into detail of Kelly's first cases on the Cumbrian force. Suffice it to say that her keen eye and thorough work ethic connects a five-year-old cold case with a current murder of a prominent businessman in a seedy hotel. To say more would ruin it for anyone who hasn't read it yet. The characterization is skillfully done, making the police, the criminals, and the victims all very real. The story shows how even a place as idyllic and beautiful as the Lake District can have a sordid, and brutal underbelly that is thankfully seldom witnessed by the average resident or tourist. Part of the action takes place in hotels and guest houses in the quaint village of Ambleside. Highton prison sits nestled within the moors of western Cumbria, close to the coastal road. When two former inmates turn up dead, DI Kelly Porter is tasked with finding out why. It soon becomes obvious that she is hunting for one killer and the place where both victims were incarcerated holds the key. As Kelly delves into life at Highton she finds more questions than answers. A web of corruption and deceit emerges within the prison walls. Family secrets are hiding a legacy of lies. Can DI Kelly Porter get to the truth before innocent lives are left? Soon, both investigations, and Kelly’s own family secrets, lead to Wasdale Hall it becomes more important than ever for Kelly to discover the devious truths hidden behind the walls of the Lake District’s most exclusive estate… I love the beautiful and dramatic Lake District settings featured in these novels, and as usual really enjoyed Rachel Lynch's plotting and writing style .’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reader reviewWhen a young woman is found unclothed, unspeaking at an ancient stone circle it's not clear if any crime has been committed. DI Kelly Porter and her team start looking into the circumstances, but the mystery girl disappears. Certain aspects of the cases link them incontrovertibly. Kelly, her newly qualified DC Rob Shawcross, and the rest of the ‘team’ have their work cut out…
